Sundays at San Diego Comic Con are always weird. Booths start closing up, the Gaslamp Quarter becomes a little less rowdy and convention-goers start praying they are selected again the upcoming year to do the past weekend all over again. Knowing ahead of time this will most likely be my last year attending, Sunday was bittersweet.
With one last day at SDCC, I headed towards the convention floor to see everything I had missed the day before. On my way to the convention, I passed by a couple of fans dressed up in cosplay which is one of my favorite things to see at Comic-Con. The outfits are always creative and fun to see.
As I mentioned in my SDCC Day 1 Recap post, I felt the convention floor lacked creativity this year in terms of what the different booths were offering. However, the HISTORY Network show Vikings came through and surprised me with an awesome activation. I was able to “get into character” by picking up my Viking weapon of choice and a time-slice camera captured footage of me preparing for battle. Being a fan big fan of the show, I was secretly nerd-ing out.
I then headed to DC booth, which is more like a small area, and they were in full-blown Justice League mode. The superhero team-up movie arriving later this year was being heavily promoted as the stars were in attendance at the convention that weekend. In the center of the booth, Batman’s Batmobile from the upcoming film was the center of attention and pretty massive.
Although I wasn’t able to snag the free magazines this year at the WB Booth (an all-time favorite booth of mine due to all the autograph signings that take place there), I had to take a photo with these larger-than-life Arrow and Supergirl Funko Pops as I have become an avid collector over the years.
Remember that post I made on How To Save Money at Comic-Con? Well, as I mentioned in my last bullet point, vendors usually lower their prices on the last day of the convention in order to help make packing up easier on them. I was able to take a photo of a sign for proof that I wasn’t making that up!
Before heading to the Gaslamp Quarter, I stopped by a Starbucks. However, It wasn’t your average Starbucks. After all, we were in Comic Con. This was a HARRY POTTER THEMED STARBUCKS. Yes, caps lock was completely necessary. I, of course, ordered the Butterbeer frap and it was delicious and made me miss Hogwarts even more.
As I headed towards the Gaslamp Quarter in hopes that the line for the Stranger Things activation had decreased, it was still pretty long and had a feeling I would not get in by the cut-off time. Instead, I wandered around and people-watched as cosplayers strutted their stuff for one last time until next July.
After a couple of minutes of looking at the convention center from across the street with heart eyes, I said my goodbye to SDCC and remembered all the amazing memories I’ve made from attending the past three years. There are so many places I want to go and I’d rather put the money and most importantly, my precious vacation days, towards new destinations. So long, SDCC! It’s been a heck of a ride.
